Specialty Hitches

Polaris has built many Special Edition RZR's with various factory-installed options, and also sells these optional parts through their dealership parts departments for installation on other RZR's. Some of these optional parts affect the design and fitment of the Thunderhawk rear receiver hitches. You are probably choosing a Thunderhawk hitch for it's strength, which is due to our exclusive double-shear mounting plate system. The Thunderhawk double-shear design features additional frame mounting points (at both the top and bottom) to securely mount the hitch plate directly to the frame without relying only on the four radius rod bolts for mounting. However, the double-shear design also requires us to manufacture several different hitches to accommodate the optional parts used on the Special Edition RZR's, and also installed by some individuals on other models. Please reference the appropriate section below to learn more about the optional parts installed on your RZR, and to find the correct hitch for your machine.

High Lifter Edition RZR - These RZR's use factory-installed high clearance radius rods. These radius rods are designed & built by Polaris (not High Lifter), and use a spacer to keep the radius rods from hitting the RZR's frame. This spacer effectively widens the radius rod (at the four center, frame-mount ends), and requires a special Thunderhawk Hitch to accommodate the longer bolts used on the four radius rods. Desert Edition RZR - These RZR's use factory-installed high clearance radius rods. These radius rods are designed & built by Polaris, and use a spacer to keep the radius rods from hitting the RZR's frame. This spacer effectively widens the radius rod (at the four center, frame-mount ends), and requires a special Thunderhawk Hitch to accommodate the longer bolts used on the four radius rods. Gold Matte LE (Rock Crawler) Edition RZR - These RZR's use factory-installed high clearance radius rods. Trails & Rocks Edition RZR - These RZR's use factory-installed high clearance radius rods. Polaris #2879523 High Clearance Radius Rod Kit - This kit includes the same high clearance radius rods that are factory-installed on some Special Edition RZR's. Click here to use our up-to-date menu to order the correct hitch by selecting -Polaris #2879523- under "Optional Equipment"

Aftermarket High Clearance Radius Rods - Virtually all aftermarket radius rods are built to the specs of the standard Polaris straight radius rods, and do NOT include any spacers to be used on the frame. This does NOT require a special Thunderhawk Hitch. Click here to use our up-to-date menu to order the correct hitch by selecting -None- under "Optional Equipment"
